HAHAHAHA... MENTAL DIVERGENCE, MY MUSE!
Many rockers are now listening to rap
Published on February 3, 2004 By TARSIER In Music
I am personally a rock fan. I like the riffs, the music, the lyrics, the ideas, and mainly, the energy. I soar like an eagle or sit like a stone, whatever mood i want to be in. Rock can change my very outlook on things in minutes, usually for the better. I love it. I crave it. So what is the deal with rap? Why is it appealing? I personally dislike it. To me it sounds like vulgar poetry that is played through a sound creator and given a "beat". Why do people like it? At a dance or party, people don't dance to rap. It seems hard to. Its just a beat to bump and grind to. So whats the deal with it? Please Respond.

you're a dirty depressed white boy. That's why you like rock.

And on top of that, no shit billl nye.

Rock, whether alrternative, classic, hard. Is mainly about being depressed, or being an outcast.

Rap on the otherhand, is being: The Richest, The Best Looking, The Smartest, The Strongest, the best. It's about being great at everything. It's preaches that "I am better then everyone else.". I'm as white as they come. I come from a rich upper-class family. But I love rap. But I feel that's why I'm so conceited. The fact I listened to rap for years, and it preaches in a fucked up way, to believe that you are better then everyone else. I think that's why good white kids listen to it. Because it preaches self esteem. As where most (alternative)rock songs are depressing and preach about losing and sorrow. No one wants to listen to sadness, only happiness. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I think deleted_ has a good point. you might like this link, which I think explains a lot:

Is it a case of There's No Accounting For Taste? One Man's Junk Is Another Man's Treasure? I mean, I like my burgers well-done, but my brother eats em rare. So, I guess thats the deal with it.

What kinda stuff are you listening to right now Tarsier? I mean - what do you consider rock?

I like Classic Rock, Nirvana and other Grunge, but mainly classical. ACDC is really cool, and that is all about being on top, being the best of the best. Nirvana talks about how stupid society is, Led Zeppelin can be linked to many different emotions. I do not come from an upper class family, but an upper middle class. I know many upper class people who love rock because of the energy and lyrics. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I like both, a whole whole lot. Change things at all? Prolly not, but oh well...that's my two cents.

Man that's funny. Okay I love hip hop, but I mainly devote my attention to underground nerd rap that most of you guys have probably never heard of. Corporate rap can occasionally be played in my car but usually only because I find the MCs so comically tragic. A lot of hip hop is just as self-loathing and critical as any political rock song or whatever...it's become just another medium of music. It's dangerous to classify a single genre with such broad generalizations...I think one could easily make arguments in any direction unless we're talking about specific artists.
